FIRST PREVIEW

FROM MAY 5TH TO MAY 14TH, 2017 – TEATRO NUOVO IN MILAN

40 years since his death, the first preview for Italy,

Elvis Presley relives on stage among immortal songs and a legendary story

For only 2 weeks at Teatro Nuovo in Milan,

ELVIS THE MUSICAL”,

dedicated to the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll, is the biography of the artist

told in music by 18 performers and a live band on stage

Maurizio Colombi, already the director of “We will Rock You” about Queen,

returns to a rock musical with another immortal icon, ELVIS.

Since August 16th, 1977, when the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll suddenly disappeared from the scene, 40 years have gone by, the legends of his life and above all about the death of Elvis Presley, have grown and strengthened for millions of fans around the world.

Now, the myth returns in “ELVIS The Musical”, a musical biography about his personal and professional life, relived through his immortal songs. The show goes on stage, for a special first preview for only 10 shows in 2 weeks, at the Teatro Nuovo in Milan from May 5th to the 14th, with 18 performers on stage among singers, actors, dancers and musicians and the indispensable live band.

ELVIS the Musical”, through the songs of “the King” is the story told by various characters who lived around him. It reveals the behind the scenes of a life devoted to music and sacrificed to show business. In less than 2 hours and going through a historical period of over four generations from the 1950s until the 1970s, the most significant for his artistic production, we will see all of the most important people to him on stage, as well as the people who were close to Elvis during his rise and fall: his mother, his father, the members of his band, his wife, his last companion, and his agent (Colonel Parker).

Elvis’s tragic death, never completely accepted, and the source of numerous urban legends, brought tears and desperation to millions of people around the world, adoring fans who loved him and continue to love him

mesmerized by his fascinating charisma, rebelliousness, sweetness, and audacity that took him through the decades with the same explosive strength from which he was born.

One of the most sculptured moments in people’s memories is the funeral in Memphis with over 150,000 people present and millions of live TV coverage. This gives way to telling the story of the rise of the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll, from the moment when Elvis still has natural blond hair and is a truck driver for necessity, stops unexpectedly at a recording studio on an insignificant highway to record a vinyl, a so-called acetate, to give his mom for her up-coming birthday. He barely has time to reveal his surprise when his irrepressible talent had already exploded, starting a head-spinning rise to the first real and only rock star on the planet.

Songs like Jailhouse Rock, It’s Now or Never (the very Italian Oh Sole Mio), Suspicious Minds, My Way, That’s all right, Always on my Mind and many other unforgettable soundtracks accompany the audience in the show that are still alive and modern lasting for 4 decades. They won’t be able to not fall in love with the story and its characters, on a rock ‘n’ roll ride towards tragedy but also towards the consecration of immortality.

The production of “Elvis the Musical” is Italian, by Ilce and We4Show, and the director of the musical is the award-winning Maurizio Colombi, who not only has had successes in the past with “Peter Pan”, music by Edoardo Bennato, and recently with “Rapunzel” and “La Regina di Ghiaccio” with Lorella Cuccarini, but above-all he directed “We Will Rock You”, the musical about Queen dedicated to another immortal music icon, Freddie Mercury, which was on stage in Italy with a huge success from 2009 to 2011. Colombi spent a brief period at Graceland recently, because he wanted to fully immerse himself in the magical myth of Elvis Presley.
